Evening with a Ventriliquist

You lose a day when you travel to this part of the world and my Wednesday morning departure was now suddenly Saturday morning.  We had our morning cupper (cup of coffee) and breakfast.

The day started with lunch at the golf club across the green from Charlene's house, Suzan's daughter and sister to her twin, Shane.  We had a lovely lunch of fish and chips while we watched a wedding get set up.  Our guess was that it was to have been an outside wedding that was moved inside because of the rain - something it has been doing since I arrived.  We watched until the bride arrived, who was just lovely as was her dress.

We went across the way to Charlene's (new since I was here last) house.  Beautiful home on the golf course with a patio and pool, lovely yard and white carpet, so off with our shoes when we came in.  It has been over four years since I had seen she and her husband David and three girls, Alex, Sophia and Lucy.  Alex has grown into a dark haired beauty and Lucy and Sophia have grown from little girls to young ladies.  Last time I was here, we went to the zoo and Lucy decided to wander off and visit the giraffes.  After a panicked search, we found her happily visiting with the giraffes as we all waited for our blood pressure and heart rates to return to normal.

We had a nice chat and caught up, then it was home to get ready for the show we were going to, David Strassman.  His show was at a club owned by the Catholic church.  I am still fascinated that the Catholic church owns a club (5 actually in the area) that have multiple bars, a casino and a large event center with shows like tonight's that was definitely a show for adults.  Apparently a certain percentage of the revenue from the club has to go back into the community.  This was in the lobby as you entered the club.

You have to register as a guest of a club.  Apparently you have to join a club if you live in the area.  When the "greeter" looked at my driver's license she just laughed and said, "Don't have to worry about you being local."  Of course it created an issue when I entered my information since USA and Colorado were not a State option, so I now live in Denver, NSW 2200.

We entered the club, wandered a bit, had a latte and a sausage roll, then headed to the event center.  It was set up with tables and chairs which was an interesting arrangement, but worked nicely.

The entertainer was David Strassman who is from Los Angeles, but when you read his bio he does a huge number of his shows in Australia and New Zealand.  I'm sorry to say his show was no where near  the caliber of Terry Fator, Jeff Dunham or even Darci Lynn which may explain why I didn't see a lot of US locations for his shows - tough when your US competition is so very talented and popular.  But it was fun.  Started kind of slow until he said "I am Groot".  I along with much of crowd burst out laughing and the show went uphill from there.  Suzan was like "why is everyone laughing" - she didn't know anything about Guardians of the Galaxy.  He made a reference to Yoda - which Suzan didn't get either - and in the second half of his show his "alien" character transported in, Star Trek sound effects and all.  All in all the show was OK, but pretty one dimensional and his characters kept wanting to sing to which he said "no singing, I can't sing".  He was right, he can't sing and the first 3 jokes about singing were funny - by the 5th time it was pretty stale.
