Bulli Beach, Wollongong, Shellharbour

Monday October 10, 2022

This was a road trip day.  Ultimately we visited Wollongong, Bulli Beach and Shellharbour.

We went first to Bulli Beach just to see the beach.  With all the bad weather Australia has been experiencing, the seas and waves were rough, we didn't see anyone surfing.  We drove along Bulli beach, then headed towards Shellharbour for fish and chips on the beach.

We got to Shellharbour and thanks to the directions of a local, ended up at a nice beach with a Fish and Chips shop right off the beach with lots a free parking.  The beach had nice picnic areas, benches and lots of seagulls who were just waiting for the next unsuspecting visitor with his/her lunch.

I got snapper, Suzan got dory and we headed down to a bench on the beach.  There was a small playground with several families enjoying picnics.  The sun was trying to come out and for the first time since I've been here I actually started to warm up.  We started to open our fish and chips and a sea gull swooped down and tried to steal Suzan's entire fish fillet - fortunately it only got a corner but we decided we would eat with our food covered.

This sea gull seemed to have claimed Suzan and me as his own and for a while worked to chase other sea gulls away from us.  They were also very adept at stealing french fries from our hands.

From Shellharbor we headed back through Wollongong with a stop at the Blow Hole.

On the way home, we missed a turn on a round about which sent us off on a an adventure through the rain forest.  The trees were big and beautiful, the roads, at times, not so much because of all the rain and the sights lovely.  We came across many constructions sites where remediation was being done but overall it was a lovely drive through the foothills of New South Wales.
