Thanksgiving in New York, 2016

Again woefully behind on posting, but wanted to get (finally) get caught up.

In November 2016 my nephew Ray and I went to New York for the Thanksgiving Day Parade.  I got the package through:

Jennifer did an amazing job of putting together a package for us that included:
Room at the Marriott Marquis
Passes for "Top of the Rock"
Tour of the parade balloons being blown up
Tour of the Cathedral of John the Divine
Parade watching party at Del Friscos
Tour of the decorated store windows

I also added tickets to the Rockets.  Unfortunately Ray was sick so we missed the store window tour.  But he was a trouper and hung in there for everything else.  What I found interesting is I think he talked the most about the tour of the Cathedral of John the Divine.  He was fascinated that the Statue of Liberty could fit inside the Cathedral.

We flew United and I found first class tickets that were only $150 more per person that American Airlines for economy before fees (like luggage).   This is the third time I have found first class tickets on United for $100 to $150 more than an economy round trip ticket.  They occasionally have some great fares.

Ray as we headed off to Top of the Rock and the Rockettes.

We walked past NBC studios and grabbed a picture of the morning crew before security moved us along.

The next pictures are from Top of the Rock.

The mighty Ray!

Radio City Music Hall is huge and beautiful.  It was the first time for both Ray and I to be there.

The band rose up from the pit to play, then was lowered back down when the show started.

My favorite nephew
At the park where the balloons for the parade are blown up.  With our package, we got there before it opened for the public.  We saw the entrance where they had it ready for the crowd - it looked like it would be packed with people so we were lucky to be able to go early.

From the park we went to the Cathedral of John the Divine.  It was beautiful.  I have a thing for stain glass windows which, if you have read my other blog or other parts of this blog, I have lots of pictures of stained glass windows.

It's Parade Day!  We were to be at Del Friscos by 8.  Ray and I got there at 6:30 and were third in line.  Because of that we got awesome seats for watching the parade.

Poor Ray still wasn't feeling good.  He slept through part of the parade but he was amazing and just hung in there for his Aunt Debbie.

Parade is over and back to the hotel.  We left early the next morning and flew home.  Awesome trip!
