We arrived in Redesheim Germany October 17th in the rain. I had signed up for the Gondola ride, so we walked in the rain to the Gondola, rode up in the clouds and visited the Neiderwald Monument.
Construction of the monument was started in 1871 and it was inaugurated in 1883. It is 125 feet tall and because of the weather (rain and fog), I didn't get any good pictures so I pulled the pictures below from the web. It was built to commemorate the founding of the German Empire after the end of the Franco-Prussian war and is estimated to cost one million gold marks.
We cruised the rest of the day. I took some pictures of castles along the river and also of nuclear power plants. Germany has set a goal to close all of its nuclear plants by 2022, so we saw some active plants along the way and some that appeared to be shut down.
