Thriller Live

I uploaded pictures (hooray for html, that is what finally worked) but can't see them because of our internet on the boat.  I believe (hope) you will see pictures to match the labels.

As a treat, I bought tickets to the production Thriller Live at the Lyric Theater in the theater district of London, which is in Picadilly Circle, an vibrant and eclectic part of London.

Before the show I had fish and chips at Queens Head Pub.  A traditional pub and small, I had taken the advice from Trip Advisor and booked a table through Open Table (love that it works around the world) and when I walked into the pub a reserved sign with my name on it was on a table.  I noticed they did that with all reservations, which I thought was a really nice touch.

I had fish and chips and banafee pie and the food was delicious.  The fish was hand breaded, not too much breading and not greasy.  Hand cut chips and smashed peas which I always find interesting.  In this case they were made from fresh peas and really quite good in contrast to some I've had that tasted like smashed canned peas.  But the pie - really a misnomer.  It looked more like an ice cream sundae. In the bottom was a toffee cookie broken up topped with a caramel sauce.  On top of that were sliced bananas and it was topped with chantilly cream and baked honey comb.  It was so rich but so good.  I could only eat about half of it but I think I'm going to add it to my list of desserts for parties, it was pretty awesome.  Even the though the pub was known for the beer it brewed in house, I skipped that since I was headed to the theater.

The theater was just a block and a half from the pub in a row of theaters.  Many people were there for the Jersey Boys and I believe Wicked was also playing, but since those are in the states and Thriller is not, Thriller was my choice.  It was fabulous.  Three male leads and a female lead then a troupe of dancers.  The young man who sang as the young Michael Jackson was amazing and the way he sang all the songs from their early days was just phenomenal.  They performed songs from through out MJ's career with the Jackson 5 and solo.  The singing and dancing was terrific.

The really fun part was who I was sitting with.  Two my left were two young ladies who I believe were Muslim because of their attire and head scarfs.  They were there with two very young men, maybe little brothers.  To my right was a gentleman and his date who I would guess were of middle eastern descent.  The young lady to my right said "I  am so exciting", then proceeded to scream, dance and sing (off key - almost as badly as I do!) and was having so much fun I just couldn't help smiling through the entire show.  The ladies in front of us weren't so pleased by her enthusiasm and said so more than once.  The man on my right had bought a sequenced glove with glowing fingers. When the young lady to my right saw the glove, she started screaming that he needed to hold it up - and so he did.  The show on the stage was great, the show around me made me smile the entire time. Bottom line, it was a fabulous experience.  The music was great, the crowd was more than enthusiastic and the dancers (especially the men who danced often without shirts - not to be sexist or anything.....) were so very good.

I had been concerned about taking the tube back to my apartment, but it was like Time Square outside.  I love Time Square at night so the walk back to the underground was really fun and just a couple of blocks.  Their was a big crowd in the station and even though the streets were fare more quiet in West Kensington, I never felt fearful for my safety as I walked "home".  All in all, great day and great night!
